Okay, as promised, I have brought you my MASSIVE digital painting and GIMP tutorial. I have spent the last week putting together this monster for you guys. :aww:
I'm sorry its so big, I just had so much I wanted to say. And at the end of the day, you can choose what you read. It is basically just a overview of everything so you can read as little or as much as you want.

I have used my latest digital painting Rapunzel to demonstrate painting the facial features and background.
Additionally I have added a realistic imaginative example of painting features.

If you have any questions, pleaaasse comment, some of my wording may be a little vague or chatty, so I'm happy to clarify, or try to answer other questions.

Thanks so much, hope it helps.

Thank you so much for making this!! I've been looking for a tutorial like this that wasn't over-glorified (where the artist makes it seem as though from the very fist step their paintings looked incredible) and I really feel as though this will help. Thank you very very much.

I'm just not the best at drawing with the mouse XD simply because I don't have a drawing tablet...thing (lol I forgot the name). I guess I'll just stick to pencil & paper. Also I've looked at some pretty detailed instructions for highlights and shadows, but I still don't understand them very well. I L.O.V.E. drawing realistic things (Mostly animals XD) and manga of course.

Wow really awesome painting skills Crystal. hope you don't mind I'v been posting on related deviations about a Gimp fork for painters,
recently compiled for windows, I've been using it and it seems pretty cool.

It was compiled by Onkel Hatti from GimpChat Forums.
It's Called Gimp Painter 2.8.7

it adds texture painting from patterns to be used.
allows Mypaint Brushes to be used as well great for blending and mixbrushes.
and has Canvas Rotation great for a more natural stroke using the arc of the hand.

I thought it'd be of great use for any gimp painters on DA so here's the link

Painter's might find some use for it. :)
